Louise Holgate : Abstract Landscape Painting

17 June - 2 July 2021

I am delighted to present an exhibition of work by artist Louise Holgate.

Louise initially trained as an architect but realised in 2010 that what she really wanted was to pursue a career as a full-time artist.  She trained under the guru/art teacher Robin Child and today works from her idylic riverside studio in Somerset.  The ethereal nature of her work connects to the sea and landscape without quite touching it - a sense of the the sea, the fields, the mist of winter envelope you without quite being wholly there.

It is a great pleasure to show this semi - mystical work and to find out more we asked Louise a few quick fire questions to understand her work a bit better.

Q.  Brush or Pallete Knife?

A. I use both depending on the nature of the painting,  I also use some other quite strange tools, from credit cards to cotton buds!

Q. Coast or Inland?

A. Both, I live inland but carry memories of the coast in my head, I was born in Jamaica and my paintings often include memories of being there

Q. Tea or Coffee?

A. Exceedingly good Cuban coffee beans from The Coffee Plant on Portobello Road.  It is wonderful to see the way it has thrived, it started as a small mobile unit set up by a student suplementing his income!

Q. Best bit of advice you have been given?

A. Keep it Simple:  Advice that I try to apply to my whole life as well as my painting. Very useful during the last year with the need to get by with less.  The downside is that normal now seems rather hectic
